Chris Benson

The cellist Chris Benson and I made many recordings back in 1975 to 1978, all on a rather old fashioned cassette recorder with condenser microphone and all sight-read from my (and his) pencil manuscripts, so the sound and performance are not perfect .... but the pieces are well worth including in this collection, not only for the interest of the compositions themselves and the vitality of Chris' performances but also for the fact that Chris opened my eyes to many possibilities for my music over the following years. Unfortunately, Chris died a few years ago, but I also managed to transcribe one of his compositions from our 1975 recordings (Summertime Rag), so I have included that piece of his at the foot of this page as well.
